Michael
Obrecht
I
began my career as a restorer and conservator of fine period
furniture, and many of my designs reflect the influence of
the styles that appealed to me most. There were many lessons
learned about aesthetics, proportion, structure, and durability
that I have done my best to incorporate into all of my work.
I have the materials I use carefully milled from logs I have
selected for their figure and color, predominantly from local
Northern Illinois hardwoods. Elements in a piece will generally
be from the same log, carefully matched for figure and grain.
I generally have completed pieces available, and am always
pleased to
discuss custom work for the client's particular needs. My
familiarity with historical styles allows me to design new
work that integrates well into a period setting.
