Announcements:

Aesthetic Eye Gallery is putting together a show coinciding with SOFA, and which will run from Friday, November 10th to December 31. The Collectors of Wood Art, a national organization of collectors, is having a conference in Chicago during SOFA, and will be doing a tour which will include Function + Art Gallery in the Fulton Market gallery district, a visit to a private collector's home in Evanston, and Aesthetic  Eye.

Although all media is welcome, the emphasis is on wood, obviously. This is a selling show, with the gallery taking 40% of any sales, which is 10% less than most galleries typically charge. There is no entry fee involved. I've volunteered to as liaison between the CFDA and Aesthetic Eye for this event, and would like to poll the group to get an idea for the number of people that might wish to participate.

Thanks!

8/8/06 – General CFDA Meeting Notes

Location: Unity Temple in Oak Park

Members were first given a tour by a docent of the temple, then proceeded with a Q&A session.  A lovely selection of beverages and hors d’oeuvres was provided by the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation.

Meeting:

Treasurer’s Notes (Lloyd Natof)

  • Lloyd reported that we are currently about $2400 in the black.
  • The Quickbooks file he has is not compatible with the program version he has, so we need to either get a different version of Quickbooks or keep our accounting records in a different format altogether.

Website updates (Dan Kowalik)

  • Dan is having trouble posting items, and the Microsoft front page is “problematic”
  • Chris Brandel offered that we’re getting quotes from outside people on this; so far bids are $500-1000, or $20/hr.
  • Jan Sopoci reported some bad links through the newsletter.  Dan will take a look and correct the situation.

Exhibition report (Jamie Stevens)

(Form Follows Form: Furniture Inspired by Architecture at IIT)

  • So far we have received about 20 entries – most all were accepted, save for one guy from New York. Deadline for entries was extended to August 14.
  • Dolly Spragins and Julie Thompson are doing a great job on PR.  We are expecting a feature in Woodworking Magazine and in Fine Furnishings International (FFI).
  • IIT is also promoting the show through their PR department, and they are footing the bill for 2000 postcards.
  • Jamie is working on a show brochure.
  • Lloyd asked how the experience working with IIT has been, (all agreed it has been positive), and suggested that this might become an annual event.  Lloyd asked Jamie to keep and log an accounting so we can learn from this and prepare for future shows.
  • Of the current $900 show budget, only $200 has been spent so far.
  • Chris Brandel commended committee members for all their hard work.
