- Meeting/Program Schedule (John Kriegshauser)
July - Tuesday, July 12--Carl Boyd on Normal Design: A Sustainable Design Practice. Carl and his partner, Liam Hawry, formed their design practice with the expressed intention of developing products with minimal environmental impact. In the process they have familiarized themselves with the recyclable aspects of many of today's plastics. This is an area of design few of our members are familiar with, so come on and get informed about the materials of the 21st Century! August - I thought we might take the August meeting to talk about models and detail mock ups. I know that I have found models and mock up's to be essential design tools in many furniture projects. Do you find it that way too? I propose to bring an assortment of these to the August meeting as the nucleus of a program. But at least a few other people will have to join me to make this work. So if you have one or more models to share, please reassure me by responding! The kind of thing we are talking about here is not a prototype. Either it is the proposed piece of furniture in miniature, made realistically or abstractly, or it is a fragment of the piece, made at any scale, to help visualize or test the idea. In the past we've talked about the advantabes and capabilities of CAD programs, now let's encounter the unique capabilites of models. |
